Eligibility Criteria for HAW Scholarships 2025
To qualify for the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
General Requirements:
- Be enrolled at HAW Hamburg.
- Have completed secondary education outside of Germany or graduated from a Studienkolleg.
- Be ineligible for BAföG funding (Federal Training Assistance Act).
- Students enrolled in specific design programs are not eligible.
Undergraduate Eligibility:
- Be an international Bachelor’s student at HAW Hamburg.
- Have completed at least two semesters with a grade of “very good” or “good.”
- Meet specific grade requirements in engineering (better than 2.9 with all exams passed or 2.5 if only two subjects are pending) or non-engineering courses (all exams completed with a high grade average).
Master’s Eligibility:
- Be an international Master’s student at HAW Hamburg.
- Have completed a Bachelor’s degree either in Germany or abroad with a “very good” or “good” grade.
- Not be eligible for BAföG funding.
- Students in certain fields, such as Design, Public Health, and Social Management, cannot apply.

Benefits of the HAW Scholarships for International Students
The scholarship provides financial assistance as follows:
- Undergraduate: Up to €400 per month for four months per semester.
- Master’s: Up to €500 per month for up to five months. Scholarships may be extended for an additional semester if eligibility requirements are met.
Duration of the HAW Scholarship
The scholarship covers one semester and can be extended for up to two additional semesters if the student maintains a minimum average grade of 2.5 each semester.
